Hello all,

I am seeking volunteers for a new after-school program that will be based out of the William Floyd school district. I am looking for dependable and reliable individuals with experience and passion working with adolescents. The program will consist of a variety of different clubs all geared around student interests. If you have an interest or hobby and you'd like to share it with students and run a club based around that topic, we want to hear from you. If you just want to offer your support and assistance we also want to hear from you. If you are a college student and would like to explore interning with us, we want to hear from you. In a nutshell, we want to hear from you. All volunteers, interns, and staff must pass a thorough background check. Below is a little bit of information about our organization.

ABOUT US:
SNAP Long Island, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization specializes in serving vulnerable populations of adolescents in targeted, high risk communities in Suffolk County. In addition to providing sexuality education for young people and their families, SNAP programs help youngsters develop competencies and articulate a positive vision of the future. Leadership, goal-setting, decision-making and communication skills are reinforced through a variety of classroom-based and after school activities including peer education, mentoring, role modeling and job shadowing, as well as through more traditional venues. Our programs emphasize strengthening the long-term stability of natural supports that promote positive factors for at risk youth.

In August, SNAP became the proud recipient of a new five-year grant that will allow SNAP to offer an innovative after-school program that runs five days a week for three hours within the William Floyd School District. The program will provide students a safe environment where they will spend one hour completing their homework followed by two hours of fun skill-building “edutainment” activities such as cooking, dancing, audio/video production, and video game design, just to name a few. SNAP looks forward to working with the students and the William Floyd School District to enhance the middle and high school experience for all involved.

To volunteer please FAX your resume to Mr. Loffreto @ 631-447-0693 or email bloffreto@snapinc.org

Thank you!

Computer Refurbishers, Installers, Transporters and Tutors (Nassau and Suffolk Counties)

The goal of the CCC program is to provide computers and printers free of charge to individuals and families across Long Island who would otherwise not be able to afford this equipment. Requests for computers are submitted by professional staff and approved by management. This program is a partnership of RSVP and The Health and Welfare Council (HWCLI) of L.I. RSVP is a not-for profit federally funded volunteer program. HWCLI is a large not-for profit human services organization that acts as an umbrella advocacy and education agency for many LI not-for-profit organizations.

Donations of used computers and associated equipment are solicited and received from corporations and individuals. Volunteers transport, refurbish and install computers in the homes of client families. Funds for purchasing computer parts are obtained by donations dedicated to this effort.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers of all ages are needed in Nassau and Suffolk counties to help in all aspects of this program. There is no specific time commitment required. Each ‘assignment’ is on an as-available/as-needed basis. Volunteers are needed to provide assistance in the following categories:

Technical Volunteers, with a background in PC hardware and software, assess hardware complement and functional status of each donated unit . The volunteer reformats the hard drive, installs hardware upgrades (e.g. modems, memory), provided by CCC via a special donation fund, an authorized Microsoft operating system and a standard software suite. This work is done in the volunteers’ homes.

Transporters/Installers provide transportation (via personal vehicle) of computers from donors to Technical Volunteers and from Technical Volunteers to recipient clients’ homes or to a facility of a CCC cooperating-agency. In most cases, when the computer is delivered to a client’s home, the volunteer “hooks up” the equipment, introduces the client to the software on the computer and, when needed, provides a brief tutorial session on PC operation basics.

Follow-up Tutoring
People with varying levels of computer familiarity or expertise are required to help client recipients attain “computer literacy”. At the simplest level, tutoring can include introductions to hardware (including turn-on), keyboard, and mouse, etc. as well as basic Windows functions. More advanced tutoring often includes e-mail, Internet, and/or word processing instruction.

Transporters-
People with vehicles to pickup donations and deliver computers to agencies. No computer knowledge is necessary

Spread the word about Unique Cancer Charity (LI, NY or anywhere)

Seeking Volunteers to raise awareness about unique cancer charity.

Our charity uses education about diet and supplementation with vitamins and minerals, to help people
with cancer or other health imbalances. Here is a synopsis of why we are different than all other cancer charities:

In our research, we believe the primary cause of failed conventional cancer treatments is because they treat cancer like an outside invader and focus on killing or removing cancer as though it is an outside invader. How can anyone provide a treatment when they have not properly identified the root cause of the problem? The use of unnatural chemicals to treat a nutritional deficiency will result in a more intense nutritional deficiency.

Our approach - is totally different. We correct the mineral deficiencies, which causes the hormones and amino acids to be manufactured correctly, which then corrects the DNA instructions, causing the body to manufacture normal cells instead of the incorrect cells. Because of the corrected chemistry - the existing cancer cells and incorrect cells no longer have their previous nutrition availible, therefore, they die from their own starvation. The body eventually breaks them down and disposes of them in a natural manner. Other issues also clear up as a result of the biochemistry correction. Basically - If you have the correct material, the resulting reaction causes good results. If you have missing or incorrect material, you will still have a reaction, you simply will not like the results.

The pH is an indicator, not a goal to reach. Some products advertise that they will alkalinze the body, and state that cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment, which is partially true. If the minerals in the body are properly balanced, their relationships with each other will cause a naturally correct pH of 7.4. However, if a person has a low pH, acidic, and takes alkaline enhancing produts, although the pH may rise to alkaline levels, the body is still lacking the required minerals to balance the chemistry. Even though the pH is alkaline, the mineral imbalance will still cause the body to compensate and make incorrect chemistries, such as cancer.

Primary causes of the biochemistry deficiency include chemically treated and processed foods, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, environmnetal chemical toxins, radiation, emotional stress, electrical fields, and overall poor diet. All pharmaceutical drugs have various toxic potentials. By providing natural nutrition to complete the body's chemistry requirements the result will be a restored, properly balanced function of the body, allowing inter-related functions to improve attain correct results. Previously incorrect chemistries & functions will reduce, diminish, and eventually no longer exist.

Our efforts have helped the reversal of most types of cancer, including pancreatic, liver, breast, ovarian, cervical, prostate, colon, lung, lymphatic and brain. Basically every type of cancer has responded to our programs. We are encouraged by the success rates of greater than 90% and anticipate rapid growth. There is never a fee to any person we help.

In addition to cancer, we have learned that this program has helped to alleviate the symptoms of :
Those who need help are encouraged to contact us.

When you are diagnosed with cancer, you are introduced to yourself, you find out what you are made of.
Humans are like tea bags, you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are.

Volunteers will get free education about our work, and access to free consultations and medical professionals who are aware of our program.

Some ideas to help promote our work:

Leafletting to strangers on college campuses or malls
Leafletting to strangers leaving health food stores
Placing leaflets on cars in parking lots
Door to door
Word of mouth referrals
Or anything else you can think of that your most comfortable with

If you would like to help make a difference in our community, this is hands-down the best opportunity to do so.

Volunteer as a Hotline Telephone Crisis Counselor (Suffolk County)

“ Good listeners help people hear themselves.”

Do people tend to tell you about their struggles? Do they thank you for being such a good listener? If so, then Response of Suffolk County is looking for people like you! Join their team of volunteer crisis counselors. Learn some rewarding new skills, and have an experience of a lifetime.

As a telephone crisis counselor, volunteers learn to engage callers, explore options, handle emergency situations (e.g. calls regarding suicide, domestic violence, runaways, etc.) and make referrals to community resources.

Those interested must successfully complete our training program, which is approximately 50 hours of skills training, lectures and workshops over a six to eight week period. In addition, volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be willing to commit to a dedicated four-hour shift every week for 6 months.

Volunteer crisis counselors take calls about everything - loneliness, grief, substance abuse, mental illness, family conflict, suicidal thoughts, etc. Often we're the first to hear a caller's secrets - there are many struggles that people don't like to discuss with even the best of friends - sexual orientation, STDs, marital difficulties, sexual abuse - and that's when a stranger can make the best listener. We also make telephone "visits" to people who are isolated due to a physical disability or mental illness.

To complete our online application, please visit www.ResponseHotline.org or call 631-751-7500 for more information.

Join us and see for yourself how rewarding an experience it can be! Volunteer as a telephone crisis counselor with Response of Suffolk County and become the caring voice on the other end of the phone!

Going through a difficult time right now? Response of Suffolk County is “Hear2Help.” Response has provided a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline for the past 35 years and now offers a new ONLINE crisis counseling service to Long Islanders, called Hear2Help.

Open to anyone who is more comfortable talking online than talking over the phone, Hear2Help is available Monday through Friday from 5:00pm to 11:00 pm. Counselors will give you all the time you need to talk about a huge range of issues -- loneliness, grief, substance abuse, mental illness, family conflict, suicidal thoughts, etc. There are many struggles that people don't like to discuss with even the best of friends – and that's when a stranger can make the best listener.

Hear2Help counselors can be reached through Response’s website at www.ResponseHotline.org. And hotline counselors can be reached day and night every day of the year at (631) 751-7500.

When you need to talk we'll be there...day or night.

Discovery Studios, the internal production company for all of the Discovery-owned channels, is producing a series of hour-long documentary style shows about hoarding, which will air on TLC. We are currently recruiting people who would like to participate.
Depending on the situation, we may be able to assist with finding a therapist or clean-up crew that can help guide the hoarder down a healthier road.

In the course of the show, we want to our viewers to understand why people hoard things, what steps can be taken to deal with a serious hoarding situation and how shining a light on this common problem can lead to positive change for the people involved. We understand the very personal and sometimes embarrassing nature of this issue and guarantee that we will treat all characters involved in our program with respect.

NATIONAL SAFERIDES - "0" fatality holiday campaign! (all of Long Island)

The goal of the National Saferides Organization is to save lives. As a non-profit we intend to do this by providing transportation to those who have had too much to drink, or to those who may ride with an impaired driver. There is more than one way to save a life. Our aim is to increase better decision making, and greatly increase the use of safer rides home which we will pay for as often as needed for the life of this organization. Saferides will be available to callers in need of a ride seven days a week.

There are many reasons why people choose to drink and drive, or end up riding with someone who has been drinking. A person does not need to be drunk, or even have been drinking to warrant a safe ride home. We want to encourage better planning and smarter decisions which will save lives. We need the public to know there is an alternative out there, and it is called NATIONAL SAFERIDES.

Drinking and driving is a problem which affects us all. That is why it is essential for EVERYONE to register and to become a sponsor or a volunteer. With every dollar we raise, it is another life saved.

JOIN US IN OUR "0" FATALITY CAMPAIGN !

NATIONAL SAFERIDES IS LAUNCHING A CAMPAIGN THIS FALL TO SAVE AS MANY LIVES AS POSSIBLE! OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE "0" FATALITIES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

PLEASE help us by becoming a sponsor today. Money raised will be used for advertsising and providing transportation to those in need to prevent drinking and driving. For every dollar we raise, it is another life saved!
We are also accepting donations for gift baskets from local Businesses.
If you would like to purchase a ticket and/or donate services, foods, gifts ect. please contact me through my email.

National Saferides (all of Long Island)

The goal of the National Saferides Organization is to save lives. We intend to do this by providing transportation to those who have had too much to
drink, or to those who may ride with an impaired driver. There is more than one way to save a life. Our aim is to increase better
decision making, and greatly increase the use of safer rides home which we will pay for as often as needed for the life of this organization.

We understand the importance of responsible alcohol behavior, and the effect it has on our communities. With the help of our
community, we will become the most effective safe ride program on Long Island. Together we can work to keep our neighborhood streets
safe. As we understand this is not just a local problem, ultimately we plan on gaining national awareness and attention.

Saferides will be available to callers in need of a ride seven days a week. When a call is received, we will contact the nearest
transportation company that we work with and find the quickest ride available and we’ll pay for it. There are many reasons why people
choose to drink and drive, or end up riding with someone who has been drinking. A person does not need to be drunk, or even have
been drinking to warrant a safe ride home. We want to encourage better planning and smarter decisions which will save lives. We need
the public to know there is an alternative out there, and it is called NATIONAL SAFERIDES.

Saferides is not to be used as a free taxi service, but in circumstantial, or emergency situations where a ride is needed, and
no reasonable alternative is available. While we are opposed to turning away people in need, we are taking all precautions along with
serious efforts towards making sure this program will not be taken advantage of. Drinking and driving is a problem which affects us all.
That is why it is essential for EVERYONE to register and to become a sponsor or a volunteer. With every dollar we raise, it is another life
saved.

We are both a private medical practice specializing in brain sciences and a non-for-profit foundation treating children with autism. We are offering an internship in language rehabilitation based on neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience done at a major university. The internship itself is in Long Island.

We value candidates who are passionate about helping children, who are animated and friendly and feel comfortable with one-on-one interventions with a child.

No specific degree or background in either special-needs education or neuroscience is necessary, but we do want candidates who will do the homework: science, language development and hands-on clinical therapy. The purpose of the internship is to teach you these things. Upon completion of at least three months with us, you will receive certification that you have completed and participated in investigational research.

The position begins in November we are beginning interviews the week of October 26. We are looking for candidates who can are flexible in their commitment to work schedules: afternoons, early evenings and/or occasional weekends.

If non-for-profit funding permits, there may be some compensation for a candidate's time, but we can not guarantee this at the moment.
