This was bought at Sallys bike shop in west Islip ny
1959 October J9 6 numeral serial number 5 would make a schwinn a 1953
This is a very rare dealer option 3 speed with back and front drum brakes from 1959.
Rims have minor surface rust easy cleanup, it's called Patina no extra charge for that lol minor rust is expected for a bike this old
Original headlight with the schwinn logo imposed, repops don't come with logo, also has the deluxe optional rear reflector
1958 factory dealer letter decals installed by dealer when purchased in 1959 making it original because owner requested them over the one yr only boring block and thin letter decals ( his choose) but have the original one year only 1959 decals making it original
The 1958 52 tooth chain ring on bike now in pic had to be put on by dealer back then for a better geared ride with the original factory rare optional 3 speed. Making it original
Normally 59 came with the one year only clover 46 tooth chain ring because the average single speed factory hub was geared for it. So this is a extremely rare original option although I do have the original clover 59 chain ring, single speed rear S2 rim and the 1959 script tank schwinn decal and chain gaurd lettering also
The optional upgrades were all done by dealer factory option in 1959
Original owner also wanted the fall protector seat ( that is the seat with the metal extended tabs on the side in case bike falls) this was installed in 59 also making it original ( in my opinion because installed before new owner made purchase) over the non protector version a one yr only seat which I have.
I also have all the original parts like the rear single speed S2 rim, the clover chain ring and the block letter decals that were all never put on and all from when bike was purchased in 1959
Dont have it all listed but other special order parts were done in 59 to this bike
Keep in mind Options were available when ordering a schwinn back then brand new
Also if you know Schwinn you would know that back then they like to use up all their parts in storage so options for parts were very available
Comes with all vintage 50s period correct accessories radio/horn that works, NY plate, original optional mud guards
