I am a professional artisan with 30 years of experience. Every statue or planter I make is treated as an art project. My products have a smooth stone look, with very few to no air bubble holes, and will last a long long time.
Concrete planter/statue buying guide:
1. Make sure there are no air bubble holes. They will trap water which can freeze in the winter.
2. Do a scratch test. Scratch the bottom or back side with an iron nail. If concrete powder comes off easily, it is indication that the concrete was not mixed or cured properly. When done correctly, concrete should last for decades.
3. Check the seam lines. They should have been smoothed out and bearly noticeable.
4. Go with pieces that have elegant and intricate designs. They are harder to make, and are more valuable.
5. Finally, concrete is the best choice for outdoor use. Resin, fiberglass, porcelain and pottery will crack easily, while cast stone is more prone to chipping and cracking.
