I have a classic Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 USB Computer Joystick for sale. It was purchased in March of 2003 and is in excellent mechanical, functional and cosmetic condition. Comes with multi-lingual instruction manual and software CD. Sorry, I no longer have the original box or packaging.
I purchased this joystick just for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator running on XP Pro. I used it about 5 times. It has been carefully stored away for 23 years.
It is a USB Joystick that features eight programmable buttons; buttons 5, 6, 7, 8 and the throttle are located on the base. Buttons 1 (trigger), 2, 3, 4 and the eight direction "Hat Switch" are located on top of the joystick. In addition to normal x-axis (side-to-side) and y-axis (back-and-forth) movement, the joystick handle also rotates right and left. All functions are customizable through the SideWinder software for your particular game(s).
Description:
Long out of production, the Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 is a legendary, vintage flight simulation joystick originally released in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Known for its exceptional durability and ergonomic design, it remains a favorite among retro gaming enthusiasts and budget flight simmers alike. Because it features a native USB interface, it still connects seamlessly to modern Windows operating systems without the need for obsolete 15-pin gameport adapters.
Key Specifications & Features:
• Design & Form Factor: Built with a durable plastic body, heavy-weight base, and comfortable ergonomic handle designed for single-player flight or space simulations.
• Button Layout: Features 8 physical buttons (plus a shift button function to double commands), an 8-way directional hat switch for camera panning, and a rapid-fire trigger.
• Axis & Rudder Control: Offers 3D spatial movement via a rotating stick handle that gives nimble, precise rudder control without requiring foot pedals.
• Built-in Throttle: Includes an integrated, 146-degree slider throttle lever on the base for granular speed management.
• Connectivity: A built-in, 6-foot wired USB Type-A cable provides direct plug-and-play functionality.
• Calibration: Utilizes a continuously-correcting optical calibration system to prevent the axis drifting over time.
Modern Compatibility & Use Cases
Windows 10 & 11:
Modern versions of Windows will automatically recognize the device as a generic USB game controller. However, you will have to manually map the axes and buttons inside individual game settings since modern titles lack native pre-made profiles for it.
Supported Games:
It performs remarkably well in games like Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS 2020), X-Plane, IL-2 Sturmovik, and space flight games like Elite Dangerous.
Console Limitations:
While physically identical to some classic Xbox era designs, it is not natively compatible with modern consoles like the Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5.
